Big noses

When you walk along the streets of Rome you will often meet some small fountains that Romans call "nasoni", that is "big noses".
You can drink from them because water pours continuously, night and day, fresh and pure. Public pure fresh water...
In the hot sunny summer days it's a joy to meet this wonderful Roman speciality.

The fountains were installed in 1872 for the first time by the administrator Rinazzi. The model was substantially the same you can see today. There were 20 fountains. Some of them are still installed in some places in the centre of the town.
There are now 2500 fountains in Rome. Enjoy them!

Facchino fountain

There's a small fountain in a small street in the center of Rome, called via Lata. The fountain represents a man with a barrel. The water is poured from a hole in the middle of the barrel. It's the water brought from the most ancient acqueduct in the World, the Virgin Water. The same acqueduct that brought water in the houses of the rich Romans of 2000 years ago. It's a very fresh, tasteful and healthy water you can still drink there directly. If you come in summer you'll find a great relief drinking from it.The small fountain was created between 1587 and 1598 by Jacopo Del Conte.
